2nd day of The Idea Factory celebrated with free new design for Studio Job!

The empty champagne bottle stands in a corner of our Factory, a few scattered pale confetti dots and some crushed stinky bitterballen make the scene complete. Yes, it was an awesome opening party of The Idea Factory, 10 visitors due to Hans C. Rebers’ facebook announcement of the celebrations. Thank you all for visiting!

This morning the news reported that the erection of the planned gate which is designed by Studio Job and commissioned for country estate Groot Bentveld in the Dutch town of Zandvoort is temporary immobilized.

To soothe the nerves around the project the The Idea Factory provides as free gift to Studio Job and the landlord of Groot Bentveld a new design for the gate.

It appears that Studio Job loves  iconophilia, whereas the book  Art Power (2008) by  Boris Groys might actually learn them something about that. With reference to Orhan Pamuk’s  My name is Red (2001) Groys gives a Turkish sultan from the 16th Century the stage: ‘An illustration that does not complement a story, in the end, will become but a false idol. Since we cannot possibly believe in the absent story, we will naturally begin to believe in the picture itself. This would be no different than worship of the idols in the Kaaba that went on before Our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had them destroyed… If I believed, heaven forbid, the way these infidels do, that the Prophet Jesus was also the Lord God himself,… only then might I accept the depiction of mankind in full detail and exhibit such images. You do understand that, eventually, we would then thinkingly begin worshipping any picture that is hung on the wall, don’t you?’ (Pamuk, 2001, pp. 109-110).  In short, a subtle iconoclastic strategy with references to the former business of the owner of the country estate – i.e. ING Real Estate, deals with city councils on parking meters and the construction of car parks- would perhaps be more of an accomplishment..
